The Government of Himachal Pradesh, redBus, and VisionSpring Foundation have launched a collaborative program to provide eye care to remote Himalayan communities. This initiative aims to screen more than 5,000 people in Shimla and Kinnaur districts and deliver eyeglasses to those who need them.
Special efforts are being made to raise awareness about the importance of clear vision throughout Himachal Pradesh. The program began on World Sight Day 2025, with a launch event attended by ministers, government officials, medical experts, and partners, including the WHO and Indiahikes.
From October 9 to October 18, 2025, teams will trek to remote locations—Shimla, Rohru, Jiskun, Jakha, Rupin Pass, Reckong Peo, Sangla, and Chitkul—providing screenings, eyeglasses, and education on eye health. Key focus areas include supporting working adults to improve productivity, helping students with better learning outcomes, and promoting safe driving for transport workers.
This initiative continues VisionSpring Foundation’s mission to transform lives through access to eyewear, productivity gains, and road safety, ensuring that people in hard-to-reach regions receive essential vision care.
