Kerala Tourism’s Bold New Trends Revealed at Network Kerala

When Kerala Tourism hosts an event, it’s never ordinary – and the recent ‘Network Kerala Delhi’ meet at Crowne Plaza Okhla was no exception. This gathering wasn’t just a showcase; it was a portal into “God’s Own Country,” right in the nation’s capital.

As the festival and winter holiday seasons approach, Kerala has introduced a range of experiential products tailored for both domestic and international travellers. This season, the state is highlighting fresh destinations alongside its iconic backwaters, beaches, and hill stations, assuring visitors a uniquely immersive escape paired with the famed warmth of Kerala hospitality.

We were there as part of a packed hall full of travel professionals, media folks, and fellow content creators. It wasn’t your usual tourism meet with long speeches and PowerPoint slides. This one was all heart. Between the business networking and policy discussions, there was Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Theyyam, and Kalaripayattu — all performed live on stage. Each performance reminded us why Kerala continues to be one of India’s most loved destinations — rich in tradition, colour, and emotion.

Setting the Model: Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism

Kerala’s approach is not just about numbers and footfalls. Through a series of strategic initiatives, it has set a benchmark in sustainable, inclusive, and regenerative tourism. In a message to the media, Kerala Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas described how the state is evolving as a global brand — repositioning itself to offer not only scenic beauty but also authentic, community-driven, and environmentally responsible experiences for every visitor.

Recent efforts by the Responsible Tourism Mission Society are at the heart of this transformation. By developing partnerships with local communities, Kerala is ensuring that new destinations and experiences, from village and plantation visits to heritage walks and adventure treks, enrich local livelihoods and remain mindful of the state’s ecological footprint.

What’s New: Beyond the Usual Circuits

erala’s 2025 and 2026 itineraries go well beyond the tried-and-tested tourist trails. The revamped offerings now include digital and smart tourism ecosystems – expect integrated visitor management, AR/VR experiences, AI-based analytics, and smart ticketing. These innovations, highlighted in a newly unveiled Vision Document, aim to unlock untapped potential and reveal “best-kept secrets” across the state.

New packages across adventure tourism, wellness, heritage, culture, and spirituality are receiving an enthusiastic response in networking sessions and fairs both within India and abroad. Strengthening this vision was India’s first Travel Literary Festival, ‘Yaanam 2025’, held in Varkala, which brought together eminent travel writers and influencers and is now expected to be an annual tradition.

Creating Safer Spaces: Woman-Friendly Tourism

Kerala has also taken a pioneering step by setting out India’s first dedicated woman-friendly tourism policy. This move reinforces the state’s global stature as a safe and welcoming destination, reflected in the surge of women visiting Kerala — both solo travellers and all-women groups, many on tours crafted or led by women entrepreneurs.

Weddings, MICE, and More

Another major focus is Kerala’s growing reputation for destination weddings and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) segment. This year, the Kerala Travel Mart Society and government partners held a flagship Wedding and MICE conclave in Kochi, attracting global buyers. Kerala’s unmatched landscapes, fusion of tradition and modernity, and world-class amenities are making it a top pick for event planners and corporate clients alike.

Cultural Signposts: Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2025–26

Significantly, this year’s inbound travel season coincides with the 6th edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, one of the world’s premier contemporary art festivals. From December 12, 2025, to March 31, 2026, Fort Kochi will turn into a buzzing international art hub — a perfect anchor for culturists and art lovers planning their journeys.

Keeping Core Experiences Alive

Even as Kerala innovates, its famed assets remain at the core of its appeal — beaches, hill stations, jungle lodges, houseboats, homestays, Ayurveda wellness escapes, adventure activities, and immersive walks continue to entice visitors seeking both authenticity and comfort. A strong design policy and sustainable conservation models are reimagining the visual and environmental identity of tourist facilities, ensuring every spot feels both Instagram-worthy and future-friendly.
