Sun Rise Festival 2025 at Dong, Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced the launch of the Sun Rise Festival at Dong in Anjaw district—the easternmost village of India. The five-day festival will be held from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026, giving visitors a rare chance to witness the first sunrise of the New Year in the “Land of the Rising Sun.”

Highlighting the festival, CM Khandu said it aims to boost tourism and adventure opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh. The event will feature:

  • Viewing of India’s first sunrise at Dong
  • Local cultural performances
  • Eco-tourism and adventure sports
  • Community-led activities showcasing Anjaw’s traditions and natural beauty

Located at an altitude of 1,240 metres near the tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar, Dong is the first place in the country to receive sunlight every morning. With this festival, the Arunachal Pradesh government hopes to place Dong on India’s tourism map and attract travelers seeking adventure, culture, and untouched landscapes.

CM Khandu invited people from across India to be part of this unique celebration: “Come, witness the first dawn of the New Year in the Land of the Rising Sun!”

Festival Dates: 29 December 2025 – 2 January 2026
